Business Need
The client operates one of the largest global express transportation networks, providing international and intercontinental delivery services across the United States and more than 220 countries and territories.
Using a powerful air-and-ground logistics network, the company ensures time-sensitive shipments reach their destination within one to two business days with guaranteed delivery schedules.
The client relied on the HERE Map Creator routing tool to develop navigation maps capable of providing accurate street data, distance calculations, and travel time estimates for delivery agents.
However, the company faced a major operational challenge: a backlog of more than 6,500 GPS breadcrumb data files collected from delivery drivers. These datasets were essential for identifying missing road segments and updating navigation maps.
Our team was tasked with analyzing this GPS data and enhancing their mapping infrastructure by identifying and adding missing streets and segments within the HERE Map Creator platform.
Key Challenges
- Recruiting and training a specialized team with knowledge of GPS terminology, address structures, and delivery-specific road segmentation

2. Hiring and Training
A team of 15 specialists was recruited based on analytical and comprehension skills. They were trained in GPS data interpretation, vehicle sensor data analysis, and traffic behavior patterns.
An additional team of five specialists received advanced training focused on mapping private properties such as warehouses and personal yards while enriching navigation maps with custom attributes.
3. Data Processing and Plotting
- Input files containing raw route data were received as shape files via email.
- The files were categorized by region and distributed among trained mapping specialists.
- After uploading the files into the HERE Map Creator tool, missing map segments appeared as scattered data points across areas of approximately 100 square miles.
- These scattered dots represented frequently visited delivery locations lacking accurate geolocation mapping.
- Our team used this data to add roads and route segments around commercial zones, warehouses, ports, mines, farms, and private properties.
This process completed missing map infrastructure and enhanced delivery routing accuracy.
